Soo belive it or not at first i was a bit shaky about temping again at a new agency new assignment and everything. To be honest just like everyone else i wanted a PERMANENT job not temp. But after meeting with sky and see'ing him get me into the exact position i had requested was a bit amazing.. Ive wanted to work at STANFORD all my life. And i didnt think it was possible to get in threw On Assignment but just as promised Sky got me in and not only that i nailed a permenet posotion within 4 months! believe it or not HARD WORK PAYS OFF FOLKS! company happy im happy and set for life. Thanks Sky, I owe you big time. Turly an On Assignment fan forever. n let me say there pay is amazing. =)
On Assignment, Lab Support Division Generally speaking, you give your resume and they match you up with temp jobs. They set up the interview and everything. Pay: reasonable for a temp job. I'm sure they get a cut every pay check you get Benefits: TERRIBLE! When I got hired, they were transitioning to new health care provider so I didn't get health care until 4 months in. 401k was a mess during the transition. They do not offer vacation time.... Sick leave, you don't get any until after 90 days. Once 90 days hit, that's when they count sick leave. -_-" Holiday pay, only major holiday (New Years, independence, Thanksgiving, Christmas). Again, after 90 days. Overall, it beats unemployment but I really wish they had better benefits and sick leave. Maybe cause it's a temp job where people don't work at that job that long. But for people who is still working at that temp job hoping for a permanent position with that company, be nice to have better packages.
Aerotek: 0 stars (if I could) On Assignment: 5 stars Please refer to my other review for the back story: http://www.yelp.com/biz/aerotek-south-san-francisco#hrid:ASs7rkWyrngTd6dTwIb0Zg NOW. Before I was laid off by my previous employer, I went ahead and walked my resume along with my other coworkers resumes over to On Assignment. We met with Troy Dinkel and gave him our resumes. WIthin the next couple of days, we got a call from Troy about a job interview. Long story short: Troy was very quick with submitting our resumes and getting us interviews and jobs. He checks in every so often to make sure things are going alright and get general updates. So my take away message to you is... AEROTEK SUCKS. That's it. Happy job hunting, folks!
This place sucks . I tried to get jobs from this place and all i got was a one week temp job for stanford when they supposedely work hard to help you find a perm job after ur temp contract . Then after i worked at stanford for a week i was contacted again like 8 months later by that time i already had my own job (not in the medical field) but it was something i wasnt going to wait around for someone from on assisgnment to call me . Garbage
I wish I could say that I was impressed by my contact with On Assignment, but unfortunately, I can't. The initial impression was more than favorable, however, things changed. I was contacted by Sky Kurtek, as he had seen my resume online, and my skills were in line with a "24-32 hour position" that he had available. I went in for my interview, my references checked, interviewed with the practice, etc. The day after the interview, I received a "good news" email and a few details had to be worked out. Fine, great! Then a phone call a bit later, informing me that the position was only 10-15 hours a week and at far less compensation than we had discussed. The less compensation I was fine with, being the position would be from home, but 10-15 hours as opposed to 24-32? I was told that things would be clarified and "I'll let you know what's up and we will go from there." What has soured me is that his way of "letting you know" was to post an ad on Craigslist, as opposed to the courtesy of a telephone call or email. Very unprofessional, in my opinion. Would I have accepted the position? Being that I have a very promising prospect coming up elsewhere that would have allowed me time to do both, possibly. As my primary source of income, DEFINITELY NOT. My feedback to On Assignment would be to clarify all of the details about a position BEFORE wasting a candidate's time (and in my case, money for taxis, as both interviews were not very BART-accessible). It is not "good news" if the most basic details (hours and compensation) are not finalized.
I had the pleasure of speaking with Richard Clark, a Technical Recruiter. These guys give the Oxford & Associates a bad name in the recruiter world. This is not the original Oxford & Associates. They were acquired. Evidently, they call themselves the Oxford Software & Hardware division of "On Assignment". This week I had an experience where they phished for names of my previous managers then proceeded to call up those hiring managers acting as if they were getting reference checks. On Assignment was never given authorization for reference checks as I am not in pursuit of a job; nor had I engaged their services. I do not think this organization behaves in a respectable manner when it comes to professional recruiting. When I attempted to call their office and ask what was going on, I was directed to Paul, Rich's manager. I'd call him slimy, at best. He was repeatedly justifying the improper behavior by saying "this is how our operation works"; that this is how they pre-screen their candidates. I find this approach all wrong if not backwards.
I've worked with Sky at this agency for several years now and always with great results. I have gotten assignments with some great, high-profile health care establishments and have now landed a permanent position at Stanford thanks to Sky :) Both him and Holly are very helpful and work very hard to find you a placement that best fits your needs. I have worked with other staffing agencies before but none are as professional and effective.
This place is extremely good at what they do. I worked with Troy Dinkel and within a matter of days, I was able to get an interview with Genentech and will be placed there very shortly. Definitely a top place for anyone interested in seeking job placement or temp work. I wish I could write more but they were able to get me placed so quickly, I can't find anything else to say except that they are quick with everything and deliver everything promised!
My experience at On Assignment was great. Sky and Megan are very professional and great at what they do. I can not thank enough for their help. Getting a dream job at one of te prestigious hospital is awesome. Thank you guys for changing my life in many different ways.
I really wish that I could give NO STARS. This place is horrible and the employees are rude and incompetent. The employees say that there are jobs for you but really they don't. Some of the recruiters are complete JERKS!! Also, when they ask for your references and they say that they have to be your past managers; tell them that you'll get back to them. They want to speak to your managers not for references but to see if there are jobs openings at the company. I don't understand how this company hasn't been shut down because THIS COMPANY IS A COMPLETE SCAM! There are people out there who really need jobs and are willing to work and this company will not help you in anyway. PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THESE PEOPLE.
I applied to On Assignment in May, wanting to find a new job as a Clinical Medical Assistant. I recieved a call from Sky Kurtek less than 48 hours after submitting my application. Within one week I was sitting down in an interview with Sky, who was assigned as my recruiter. After sitting down and helping me with the copious amount of paperwork, Sky took the time to help me figure out what I was looking for in my new position, and set out to help me achieve my goals. Knowing that I wanted something temp-to-hire, instead of the usual temp, Sky found me a job that had a great probability of a hire on at the end of the 90 day contract, and was completely honest with me that even though this was a possibility, there was a chance that I would have to continue temping. Everytime I had a question, or needed to get ahold of Sky, or anyone at On Assignment, it was very easy to do so. Even after leaving a voicemail I was always recieving a quick call back. Sky and his team, especially Jamela went above and beyond in scheduling my preemployment screening, somehow mananging to do so around my very hectic schedule. Thanks to On Assignment, a little over a year after recieving my Clinical MA Certificate, I have reached my goal of working as a full-time, permanent Medical Assistant at the Cancer Center at Stanford. Thank you Sky for your guidance and persistance in helping me reach this goal!
In June, I was referred to Troy Dinkel from OnAssignment from an old coworker, who absolutely raved about this agency. When I contacted Troy, we immediately impressed with his professional demeanor. We met in person to review my qualifications, and he was very well prepared and knowledgable on different job opportunities that I could chose from. Once I chose a job, he quickly contacted the Employer, and I started working for them right away. Every week, Troy would follow-up with me and see how I was doing. He was always available when I needed him, and would always address my concerns. I felt like he was never too busy to answer my questions, even after he placed me, which shows that he was genuinely concerned with my opinion and feelings towards my placement. I was genuinely happy with my placement, and extremely satisfied with my interaction with Troy and OnAssignment. I would HIGHLY recommend this agency anyone and everyone!
I had a very great experience working with the agency, especially with Sky Kurtek. He is a very professional and kind gentleman. He found me a job at Stanford Hospital and Clinics, and I was working my dream! I never thought id be there by now! Also, he always checked up on me , making sure I was following the right path. I currently have a permanent job at Stanford, and it was all because of them. I highly recommend this agency, especially Sky Kurtek :)
If you thoroughly enjoy being blown off, then this is the agency for you! You'll initially be told how marketable you are and how they have several jobs that you qualify for and that "we'll have you working in no time". Then, several weeks later when you're calling them to follow up on those "several jobs", your particular agent is conveniently unavailable or, if you do actually talk to him/her, you'll either get the standard "I'm sorry it's been so long...I'm in the middle of something, but will call you as soon as I'm able" or you'll get transferred to someone else's voicemail. Patience and persistence in finding your OWN job on your OWN is a lot more rewarding. Unfortunately, when you have to depend on others to come through for you, you're in for some major disappointment. On Assignment is very disappointing. Save your time and emotions!
My experience with on assignment was horrible, and I highly highly recommend to anyone looking for a job to not waste their time on this recruiting agency. I agree with another posting that the recruiters will initially tell you that they will have no problem finding you work quickly, and foolishly I believed them. I was on with the agency for approximately 7 months and I never even had an interview...not even a phone interview. So though I had significant research experience in my undergrad, had substantive work experience, and TWO degrees, on assignment couldn't even pull off obtaining me an interview. Subsequently, I have advised my former classmates to avoid on assignment. Thankfully, I discovered Aerotek, and the wonderful, efficient, and successful recruiters there had me a job in 3 weeks!!! I wish I had known about Aerotek in the beginning of the year. If I had I wouldn't have wasted my time with on assignment. So my advice, go to on assignment if you want to waste your time, and if you want a job contact Aerotek:-).
On assignment was the first agency who called me and offer me a job as contractor at St Mary and Seton hospital Sky Kurtek was my agent and thanks to him and his entire team I got hired from the hospital they sent me for another contract. This month I started as Seton hospital as an employee. I'm very grateful and blessed for all the help and assistance they gave to me. What I really like most about my experienced with On assignment was when Sky interview me, he knows that I'm not experienced but he is so brave and took a huge risk and gave me the assignment at St Mary. For anyone who had high hopes and believed about other people abilities, that's a great people's skills and honorable act! When I asked for an increase ,Sky and on assignment give it the next paycheck. On the day that my job was celebrating all employee at our department, On assignment supervisor Daniel personally come to our department and express their congratulation and appreciation to each of their employee. That means a lot to me that they treat us as a FAMILY.The entire team are highly professional and passionate of helping get us assignment, I'm proud to say I came from ON ASSIGNMENT!!!God bless you all On assignment and May you all continue to prosper and help a lot of people out there. To you Mr. Sky Kurtek continue believing and giving people a chance that's what makes you a special person.PEACE!!!!!
I would like to say I have had a great experience with this registry, it's because of them I am about to be employed with a full time job at O' Connor hospital in San Jose. I' ve been applying since last August and still nothing, 3 years experience under my belt. Without them I'd still be unemployed.
On Assignment was great in finding me a job! I had a great experience and they came through for me. Thanks to them I am now a permanent employee at Stanford Hospitals and Clinics! They are a very driven and motivated team. I had my interview with the agency on a Monday, they quickly managed to get me an interview with Stanford on Tuesday and by Thursday of that same week, I was told that I had the job! If it wasn't for this agency I would not be where I am at today!!
How to Use a Temp Agency to Find a Job
Is unemployment running out? Are your cash reserves getting low? Don't want to commit to a permanent position? Consider a temporary job to help pay the bills. Temporary agency positions are available in just about every career field and location. In many cases, you can apply online to the temp agency of your choice.
What Is a Temp Agency?
A temporary staffing firm, also known as a "temp agency," retains workers to send out on short or long-term assignments.
Companies in need of short or long-term temporary workers will enter a contract with the temp agency to fill jobs with appropriately skilled workers.
Temp agencies usually deal with a particular profession or business, such as healthcare, information technology, accounting, office administration, or industrial labor. When applying to a temp agency, you may be asked to complete a series of tests, so that they can match you appropriately to jobs in a particular business. You'll also likely need to submit a resume and a list of your skills and proficiencies so the temp agency can get a sense of which jobs you will succeed in.
As an employee of a temp agency, you may be entitled to a variety of benefits, comparable to those of a full-time employee in a permanent position. Working for a temp agency offers you the opportunity to explore employment options you might not have access to if you were committing to a permanent position, while also maintaining the flexibility to change assignments upon completion.
When you receive an assignment as a "temp," the agency will provide you with information as to whom to report, dress code, hours, wages, and a description of the duties and duration of the job.
What Kind of Jobs Are Available at a Temp Agency?
These days, temp jobs range from low-skilled, entry-level work to professional roles.
The most common types of jobs that temp agencies fill, however, include:
- Administrative workers
- Assembly line workers
- Audio transcribers
- Cleaning and/or maintenance workers
- Clerical workers
- Data entry workers
- Information technology workers
- Labeling and/or packaging workers
- Medical secretaries
- Nurses and nurses’ aides
- Truck and delivery drivers
Temp Job Benefits
In addition to a paycheck, many temporary agencies provide benefits to their workers. Manpower, for example, offers a full benefits package including holidays, medical and dental coverage, life insurance, and a 401k plan. Other staffing firms also offer excellent benefits packages. Be sure to inquire what benefits are offered when you apply or when you interview. Also, inquire about whether the company pays the cost of the benefits or you do.
Temp jobs can give you experience in industries and careers you might not have otherwise thought of trying — without a long-term commitment. If you are not thrilled with the assignment or the employer, you can move on to your next position and start anew.
Flexible Work Options
Temporary employment also provides the opportunity to work when and where you want to work. Work only during school hours, take the summers off, or take a break to do something else with your life.
Either way, if you are a temp it's your choice when you work — and where you work.
If your resume needs a boost, temporary jobs are an ideal way to add skills and experience to your resume, as well as to gain experience in the workplace. According to the American Staffing Association, more than 90 percent of staffing companies provide training to their temporary workers and 70 percent of temps say that they gained new skills during their assignment.
Temp to Perm
A temporary job can also become a permanent position. Ninety percent of all companies use temporary employees and 40 percent of Manpower's millions of workers find permanent employment through their temporary placements each year. This means that even though temping may seem like a step down from permanent employment, it actually can be a step through the door at a company you are interested in working for and a way to get hired permanently.
Temp Job Applications
Applying for a temporary job is quick and easy. At many temporary job agencies, like Manpower and OfficeTeam, job seekers can register, submit a resume, and search for jobs online. Visit the Net-Temps website and you can post a resume by copying and pasting your resume from Microsoft Word, or uploading a resume document.
If you choose temporary work, you will be in good company. On any given day, 2 million people are employed by staffing companies. Temporary jobs offer an opportunity to earn income and add skills to your resume while continuing your search for that perfect position. Your temp job can become your career — over 79 percent of temps work full-time.
Tips for Landing a Temp Job
To ace a temp job interview, emphasize your flexibility and comfort working in new environments, as well as the relevant skills in the job listing.
Research the company ahead of time, and practice answering typical temp job interview questions. On the day of the interview, dress appropriately, and come to the meeting with copies of your application materials and a sense of your availability.
Be honest about your goals, whether it’s to land a permanent position (eventually), maintain flexibility, or to develop some skills that will make you an attractive candidate for your next full-time job. Make sure to stress your dedication and commitment — employers want employees who care, even in temporary roles.
